Formerly known as McGuire Air Force Base and Fort Dix, JBMDL is now a joint base that houses the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. Located in the middle of New Jersey, it has great access to the major cities in the Mid-Atlantic. There is much to do in this part of the country, but most off-base attractions are at least 30 minutes away from JBMDL. On base, the commissary and B/X/P/X are moderate in size, with most necessities available, as well as many other items you may want or need, minus the dreaded 7% NJ State Sales Tax. There is a movie theater as well, although I have never seen a movie there. A couple golf courses, pools, and much more make JBMDL a convenient option for shopping and entertainment that is close-by.
Another perk of JBMDL is that it remains a major hub for continental and transcontinental military flights. This means that with a little flexibility, you may be able to reach your destination on a hop for around $50!
